Stardust III
Oil, 14 x 18 inches

Another piece in a series started last July in Abend Gallery's Introductions show with "Stardust Gazing Back." This new piece will be appearing in Abend's Contemporary Figuration show opening May 13th.

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.”

This quote from Carl Sagan represents one of the most poetic truths of our scientific reality. That heavy elements weren't created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of earlier generations of stars that have since exploded and spread their material across the universe. We are literally made of stardust. This allows us a new and profound feeling of connection to the stars we see in the sky, to the universe, and to everyone in it. Neil deGrasse Tyson calls this idea "the most astounding fact" in the video below.

Vistani Magic
Oil, 18 x 24 inches

A vision in the flames. Painted last year for Dungeons & Dragons recently released "Curse of Strahd" Adventure. I'm happy to say this painting has been accepted to Spectrum 23! It's also featured on the D&D website here: dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/gothic-heroes

Morgantha's Pastry Cart
Oil, 18 x 24 inches

A bit creepier than my usual work, this was painted last year for Dungeons & Dragons recently released "Curse of Strahd" Adventure. The witch Morgantha takes human form to sell her drug laced pies in the mists of an oppressed town.

Last month I was very excited to announce that this painting has received the Best of Show award in the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society annual "Best of America" exhibition. Well, the December issue of the Artist's Magazine has been released and I can now tell you that the same painting has received an Honorable Mention in the Magazine's 30th Annual Art Competition in the figure and portrait category! I'm honored once again to be in the company of so many great artists. Go check out all the other great art in this issue on the news stands. You can see an excerpt of the magazine on my blog: robreyart.blogspot.com/#sthash…

Your gallery is so incredible, I don't understand how I haven't found it during 7 years on dA. Your paintings are so beautifully transcendent, I'm in awe. Keep creating :+devwatch::clap:

I just wanted to say I love your art! Especially the astronomy ones, they're gorgeous. Random note, I don't know if it's me but I feel you also use the same model in many works and that sort of adds a bit of mystery to your paintings, so that's a nice touch. Anyway, fantastic gallery, keep it up and thanks for sharing with us!
